Really motivating read. I’ve always believed my range of skills has been my advantage in life. Especially in sports. This book confirms that’s likely true.
Epstein breaks down the difference between specialists and generalists. He uses countless examples of how the generalists triumph. A broad range of skills is absolutely the better predictor of big breakthroughs.
He discusses how in science especially, specialization leads to group think and siloed research. Major findings happened when cross functional collaboration took place.
Being a parent of twins girls. It’s also a great reminder that kids need to explore the world and try everything. Practicing one thing is not the answer.
