I listened to a lot of great music in 2015. I had many binges that lasted many days. I love finding new artists I wasn’t even aware of and then loving EVERYTHING they ever released. Because of Apple music, I can roll the dice on atypical artists which has expanded my musical horizon. Anyways, here are my favorites from 2015.
1. Something More Than Free- Jason Isbell
Loved it from the very beginning. Had never listened to him before and became an instant fan. 2015 kind of had a country vibe for me and Isbell teeters on the edge country/folk in my opinion. The songwriting is incredible and you can almost visualize a movie for each song. Favorite song: Something More than Free
2. Coming Home- Leon Bridges
I love that old school soul sound and I was instantly into the vibe of this album. Leon is a flashback in the greatest way. He reminds me of Ray Charles and who the hell doesn’t love Ray Charles. Favorite song: River
3. Traveller- Chris Stapleton
Another brand new to me artist fill out the top three. His voice, my god his voice. He has pipes for days and this album has made me question all my anti country ways. Favorite song: Parachute
4. How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful- Florence and the Machine
I love everything they release and this one was no different. Classic Florence sound with slow build ups and fantastic vocals. They swing from one genre to another seamlessly. Favorite song: Delilah
5. The Story of Sonny Boy Slim- Gary Clark Jr.
The first song on the album may be my favorite song of the year. The slow sharp electric guitar is amazing. Great mix of blues and R&B. Remains one of my favorite artists.
6. Ol’ Glory- JJ Grey & Mofro
7. Yours, Dreamily- The Arcs
8. Wilder Mind- Mumford & Sons
9. Hearts on Fire- Colin James
10. Higher Truth- Chris Cornell
HM. 25- Adele
HM. Chaotic Neutral- Matthew Good
