The Happiness Advantage
I listened to the audio book a few years ago but got the book as a gift, so figured I might as well dive in again. I absolutely love podcasts and listen to a ton of them but for some reason, audio books don’t do it for me. I like the physical part of the book and looking at book on the shelf. Anyways, back to the happiness advantage.
It was ok. I’ve heard Shawn Achor speak a few times and find his voice annoying for whatever reason. The whole time I was reading, I had HIS voice in my head. That likely didn’t help.
The book content was pretty cool. Just be ready for added filler and fluff. I could have got the gist of it in half the length.
It’s all about the seven principles of happiness based on data and research. Achor explains how we can reprogram our brains to become more positive in order to gain a competitive edge at work and life.
Quick easy read with some interesting data. Good advice like the ‘Zoro circle’ and the ’20-second’ rule, meaning focus on small manageable goals and make it easy to do the things you want to do.
Most of the seven principles are common advice but seeing the data makes it that much more compelling. Everyone knows having a good, strong social support network makes people happier. That’s one of the principles. Having a positive mindset is another one.
Decent but I’d pass and watch the TedTalk instead.
