SCOUTING REPORT:

OUELLET IS AN EXPERIENCED PLAYER FOR HIS AGE, PLAYING IN THE U-18, U-17 AND 2011 SUPER SERIES. HIS COACH DESCRIBES HIM AS THE BEST DEFENCEMAN HE HAS EVER COACHED. HE PICKED UP THE PACE OFFENSIVELY THIS YEAR AS HE FINISHED TOP THREE IN ALMOST ALL OFFENSIVE CATEGORIES AMONG QMJHL DEFENCEMAN ELIGIBLE FOR THE 2011 NHL DRAFT.

OUELLET PLAYS IN ALL SITUATIONS, INCLUDING THE TOP DEFENCE PAIRING, TOP PK UNIT AND QUARTERBACKS THE PP. HE’S A GREAT SKATER WITH A FLUID STRIDE WHICH ALLOWS HIM TO RUSH THE PUCK WITH EASE. HE’S VERY PATIENT WITH THE PUCK, RARELY PANICS WHEN PRESSURED AND A GREAT PASSER. HE HAS A FANTASTIC ABILITY TO HOLD THE PUCK IN AT THE BLUELINE AND IS POSITIONALLY SOUND AT BOTH ENDS.

HE STILL NEEDS TO MATURE PHYSICALLY TO BE ABLE TO THROW HIS BODY AROUND A LITTLE MORE.  HE HAS A DECENT SHOT BUT NEEDS TO IMPROVE HIS ACCURACY AND MAKE BETTER SHOT CHOICES.  HE MIGHT HAVE TROUBLE DEALING WITH BIGGER PLAYERS AT THE NEXT LEVEL.  THE HIGH RISK PASSES HE MAKES IN THE QMJHL WON’T BE SO EASY AT THE NEXT LEVEL. I SEE HIM BEING DRAFTED IN THE 2ND OR 3RD ROUND AND THAT TEAM WILL BE VERY HAPPY GETTING HIM THAT LATE.

NHL POTENTIAL:

TOP FOUR DEFENSEMAN.
